membershipWhat is a member?
When you sign up as a member of MDCHSC you are becoming a member of the corporation. You do not have to be a client of MDCHC to become a member however you must reside within our catchment area. By becoming a member, you are showing your support for community-based health care.

What is the difference between a member and a client?

  • A client is someone who is registered for programs and services at MDCHC, SFCHC or RVDS (receives care, attends groups).
  • A member is someone who is supporting and contributing to the business of the corporation.

What do members do?
As a member you may:

  • Run for and become elected to sit on the Board of Directors;
  • Vote for the election of members to sit on the Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting (AGM);
  • Vote on issues that are brought to the membership at the AGM, such as by-law changes;
  • Receive an advance copy of corporate documents such as the Annual General Report.

Why is membership important?
Membership indicates the vitality of our community and its commitment to having a voice in our health care.  It also demonstrates to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care that we support a community-based, multi-disciplinary organization that focuses on all our health care needs and the initiatives it undertakes on our behalf.  It also underscores the conviction that we expect the province to have the same confidence in our CHC Board and Staff, and therefore continue to provide funding to maintain and improve services.

How do I purchase a membership?
The Board of Directors is currently waiving payment of membership fees although registration is still required. Applications for membership are available at the front reception desk year-round or click here to open an electronic version (Adobe Acrobat is required). Memberships expire each June and renewal is required.  Members receive notification of renewal at least 30 days prior to the Annual General Meeting.
