Rideau Valley Diabetes Services (RVDS) has offices in Smiths Falls and Brockville.

We are funded by the South East Local Health Integration Network (SE LHINS) so there is no cost for our services (unless indicated ‘$’).

There is no doctor referral required for our programs unless you are starting insulin.

All sessions are guided by Registered Nurses and/or Registered Dietitians.

Education Programs

RVDS offers interactive education programs throughout the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville area. All programs are offered by Diabetes Educators (Registered Nurses or Registered Dietitians).

Individual Counseling

Meet with our Diabetes Educators (nurse and/or dietitian) for one-on-one counseling tailored to your needs.

Multidisciplinary Clinics

RVDS/Physician partnership provides for individual coaching with a nurse and dietitian to support the client to make healthy lifestyle changes and reach blood sugar and cholesterol goals.

Diabetes Check-in/Information

Groups meet regularly throughout Lanark, Leeds & Grenville. The participants choose topics and events for each meeting.

Special Events

RVDS holds conferences, in-service training, etc. for health care professionals and people living with Diabetes.

Diabetes ABC Program

Designed to help people with Type 2 diabetes this program will help you gain a better understanding about diabetes and maintaining good health.

•    Preventing complications
•    Medication for diabetes
•    Label reading
•    Foot-care information
•    Goal setting
•    Benefits of exercise and opportunity to try resistance training

Prediabetes

Designed for clients at high risk of developing diabetes this group session will focus on healthy eating and active living in an effort to promote heart health and prevent Type 2 diabetes.

Grocery Store Tours

Healthy eating with diabetes begins in the grocery cart.  RVDS offers tours of local grocery stores.  Check our website for updates of these popular events.

Diabetes Community Cooking Groups

A small group setting to learn how to prepare healthy recipes for diabetes.  You will help prepare several recipes and take home food.  Learn more about healthy eating for diabetes and enjoy food and fun!

Diabetes Check-in

Support & Information meetings are held regularly in various locations throughout Lanark, Leeds and Grenville.

Individual Counseling

See a nurse and dietitian to help understand how your diabetes can best be managed. This is the time to get your questions answered.

Foot Care Clinics

Visit with a foot care nurse or chiropodist to understand the importance of good foot care and have them assist you with any problems.

Insulin Initiation *

In an individual counseling session, discuss the benefits of insulin therapy and utilize hands-on instruction to teach clients how to use the latest insulin pen devices.  Blood sugar monitoring and hypoglycemia management will also be reviewed.  Clients will have an opportunity to explore feelings around insulin initiation.  *A doctor referral is required for this service.

Walking Groups

A Day For You ($) (Annual Conference)

Who should attend?

  • A person with Prediabetes, Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, wishing to learn more about controlling their blood sugar levels. - A support person for someone with diabetes who wants a better under-standing of this condition.
  • Health Care providers who wish to meet the RVDS staff, hear what their clients are hearing and increase their knowledge about Diabetes from our guest speakers and workshops. Watch for our flyers and keep checking the RVDS website for dates and times.
